Cassie Mayweather (Sandra Bullock) and Sam Kennedy (Ben Chaplin) are assigned to a case where a women is found dead in the woods. Mayweather's investigation leads her to Justin Pendleton (Michael Pitt) and Richard Haywood (Ryan Gosling), two teenagers who want to commit the perfect murder. This investigation ends up taking control of her and jeopardizing not only her relationship with Kennedy, but her job.
