From acclaimed director Christopher Nolan comes the story of Will Dormer (Al Pacino), a veteran LAPD detective who travels to a small Alaskan town with his partner Hap (Martin Donovan) to investigate the disturbing murder of a seventeen year-old girl.

Under the glare of the region's perpetual daylight, Dormer and Hap close in on the primary suspect, reclusive novelist Walter Finch (Robin Williams). During a tense stakeout on a rocky, fog-shrouded beach, Finch slips into the mist and out of Dormer's grasp. As he makes his escape, shots ring out…and Hap is killed.

As he struggles to cope with his sense of responsibility and remorse over his partner's death, Dormer is forced into a psychological game of cat-and-mouse by the brilliantly malevolent Finch. The stakes escalate as Dormer contends with an unproven but perceptive local cop (Hilary Swank) and becomes increasingly entangled in Finch's web of manipulation.

Unable to find respite from the relentless Midnight Sun or his own distorted judgment, the dangerously sleep-deprived detective finds his stability gravely threatened.

A man who has devoted himself to serving the leader of the free world is accused of plotting against him in this thriller. Pete Garrison (Michael Douglas) is a veteran Secret Service agent who has had a long and distinguished career helping protect the president of the United States. David Breckinridge (Kiefer Sutherland) is a fellow Secret Service agent who learned most of what he knows from Garrison and holds him in great respect. When intelligence data suggests that there is a mole within the Secret Service who is part of a plot to assassinate President Ballentine (David Rasche), Garrison launches an investigation to ferret out the rogue agent, and asks Breckinridge to go over the evidence with a fine-toothed comb.

Breckinridge is shocked when the clues point to Garrison as the traitor within the Secret Service, but his sense of duty compels him to see that his former mentor is placed under arrest. Garrison eludes his captors and struggles to prove his innocence while tracking down the real conspirator and eluding the agents who were once his colleagues. As Breckinridge leads the search for Garrison, another ranking agent, Jill Marin (Eva Longoria) plays devil's advocate, convinced that Garrison couldn't possibly be the rat in the house. Popular cheerleader Nina Deer's (Elisha Cuthbert) seemingly unblemished suburban world is turned upside down when her parents (Edie Falco and Martin Donovan) adopt their recently orphaned goddaughter Dot (Camilla Belle). Dot's arrival delivers a blow to Nina's idyllic social life and triggers the unraveling of the family's darkest secrets.

Both Nina's family and friends, including the school hunk Connor (Shawn Ashmore, The "X-Men" trilogy), develop an odd fascination with Dot and confide in her their troubling secrets. Dot quietly shoulders the burdens and secrets of those around her, while continuing to hold what is perhaps the biggest secret - her own.

Directed by Jamie Babbit ("But I'm a Cheerleader"), "The Quiet" is about family secrets, friendship, trust and betrayal. Through Nina's eyes, Babbit takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride- through the hilarious and often crude interactions of high schools students and a family where happy faces disguise ugly truths.
